“We’re Taking Ekiti!” – PDP Fires Warning Ahead of 2026 Election

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Ogun, has declared that the opposition party is strategically positioned to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
Ogun, a former Commissioner for Works in the state, made this known in a statement released on Saturday by her Special Adviser on Media, Oladimeji Atenibiaje, in Ado Ekiti.
She said the PDP in Ekiti had intensified mobilization efforts, drawing strength from the growing dissatisfaction of the people over current hardship, hunger, and misgovernance.
“Our plan is to win the coming election and change the face of governance in Ekiti. We are not happy with the present situation. Hunger and abject poverty have taken over the land in Ekiti,” she said.
While expressing confidence in the state chapter’s unity and strength, Ogun raised concerns over the lingering crisis in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), particularly the leadership tussle over the position of National Secretary.
She warned that the unresolved crisis could derail the party’s chances in 2026 if not urgently addressed.
“We are on the verge of winning Ekiti State with our mobilization drives ahead of 2026, but this crisis could thwart our chances if not resolved,” Ogun stated.
She urged the NWC, led by Alhaji Iliya Umar Damagun, to resolve internal disagreements and refocus on supporting state chapters in their electoral battles.
“The PDP is bigger than the NWC and individuals therein… A house that divides against itself cannot stand. We should not allow this crisis to continue,” she added.
Ogun stressed the need for unity ahead of the 2027 general election, describing it as the larger picture the party must not lose sight of.
The PDP has been rocked by internal wrangling over attempts to remove Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, sparking tensions between governors elected on the party’s platform and loyalists of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
