JUST IN: Supreme Court Upholds Gov Okpebholo’s Election
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.
In a unanimous ruling delivered on Thursday, a five-member panel chaired by Justice Mohammed Garba dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, describing it as lacking merit.
Ighodalo’s appeal had sought to annul the result of the governorship election held in Edo State on September 21, 2024.
The Supreme Court found no reason to overturn the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, both of which affirmed Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the legitimate winner.
The court concluded that the appellant failed to present credible and admissible evidence to substantiate claims of electoral malpractice, including allegations of over-voting and significant non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
