Community Shield: Crystal Palace Defeat Liverpool At Wembley, Emerge Trophy Winners

Crystal Palace stunned Wembley on Sunday, defeating Premier League champions Liverpool on penalties to claim the 2025 FA Community Shield.

Liverpool struck early when debutant Hugo Ekitike scored just four minutes in. The Eagles quickly drew level from the spot after Ismaila Sarr was brought down, with Jean-Philippe Mateta coolly sending Alisson Becker the wrong way.

The Reds regained the lead almost instantly as Jeremie Frimpong’s looping cross beat Dean Henderson. But with minutes remaining, Sarr broke through to make it 2-2, forcing a shootout.

Henderson delivered a string of brilliant saves, sealing Palace’s victory and adding the Community Shield to the FA Cup they lifted earlier this year.
