Harris Left Without Secret Service Protection As Trump Tightens Grip
The Trump administration has ended former Vice President Kamala Harris’s Secret Service protection, a White House official confirmed on Friday.
According to CNN, the administration revoked an extension that had been granted by then-President Joe Biden, which allowed Harris—now the Democratic presidential candidate to retain security beyond the standard six-month period that expired on July 21.
A senior Harris aide told AFP that Harris was “grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”
Although Harris has maintained a relatively low profile since her election loss, she is expected to re-emerge publicly this fall as she embarks on a book tour.
Her memoir, 107 Days, recounts her brief presidential campaign against Trump and will be published by Simon & Schuster on September 23.
Harris, the first woman to serve as U.S. vice president, became the Democratic nominee after Biden exited the race amid growing concerns about his cognitive health.
She described the book as written with “candor and reflection” and promised readers a revealing, behind-the-scenes account of her campaign.
Since returning to office in January, Trump has pursued a series of actions targeting his critics and political opponents.
He has revoked security clearances from current and former officials, cut federal funding to certain universities, and singled out law firms connected to past legal battles against him.
Most recently, FBI agents raided the home and office of John Bolton, Trump’s former national security advisor and outspoken critic, as part of an investigation reportedly tied to classified documents.
