AFCON 2023: NPFL To Present One Player
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been confirmed as one of the participating leagues in the upcoming 2023 Africa Nations Cup in Ivory Coast, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The NPFL will join 23 other leagues from participating countries to showcase their players in the tournament.
It is noteworthy that Enyimba goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, has been selected as the sole representative from the NPFL in this prestigious tournament. This highlights the recognition of his talent and the quality of players produced in the NPFL.
Interestingly, the South African Premier League has the highest number of representatives with 12 players, followed by Egypt with 8 players.
Tanzania has 7 players, while Tunisia and Mozambique have 6 players each. Zambia follows with 5 players, and Algeria and Botswana have 4 players each representing their leagues.
The competition is scheduled to begin on January 13, 2024, and will run until February 11, 2024. Nigeria has been placed in Group A alongside host country Cote d’Ivoire, as well as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
This promises thrilling matches and opportunities for Nigerian players to showcase their skills and represent their country at a continental level.
Overall, the inclusion of the NPFL in the 2023 Africa Nations Cup is a significant achievement, not only for the league but also for Nigerian football as a whole.
It provides a platform for Nigerian players to gain exposure, enhance their skills, and contribute to the success of the national team.
