Affectionately known as “Dodomayana,” Rufai was widely celebrated as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers. His professional career spanned over two decades, during which he played in top European leagues, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.

Rufai also proudly represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cups and two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

His passing coincides with another tragic loss in the football world — Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died earlier in a car accident in Spain, along with his brother.
