NiMet Forecasts Nationwide Thunderstorms, Rainfall
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday through Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet forecast isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall on Monday morning in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states. By afternoon and evening, more thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across the northern region, with flash floods likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.
For the central region, a cloudy morning with intervals of sunshine is anticipated, alongside moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across most central states.
In the south, cloudy conditions are forecast on Monday morning, with moderate rainfall in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. More widespread rainfall is expected later in the day.
TUESDAY:
The northern region is predicted to experience cloudy skies with sunny intervals. Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are likely over Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa in the morning, while thunderstorms are expected in Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba later in the day.
The central region will see cloudy skies with sunshine intervals in the morning, accompanied by rainfall in Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, and the FCT. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated later in the day across Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
In the south, cloudy skies with chances of moderate rainfall are expected on Tuesday morning in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta. Light to moderate rains are forecast across much of the region later in the day.
WEDNESDAY:
According to report, Northern states will witness cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and slim chances of light rain in Sokoto and Zamfara during the morning. In the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.
In the central region, cloudy skies with sunny spells are expected on Wednesday morning, with light rainfall likely in Kogi, Kwara, Niger, and the FCT. By afternoon, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.
The southern region will be cloudy on Wednesday morning, with moderate rainfall anticipated later in the day.
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy downpours and cautioned farmers against applying fertilisers or pesticides just before rain to prevent nutrient wash-off.
Residents were also urged to secure loose items, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid sheltering under tall trees during storms.
The agency further advised airline operators to obtain detailed airport-specific weather information for safe and efficient flight planning.
