El-Zakzaky trial: Court calls on controller of Kaduna prisons
The Kaduna State High Court has ordered the Controller of the Kaduna Correctional Centre to appear before it.
The court is hearing the case of the founder of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, popularly known as ‘Shi’ites’, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat.
The court at the resuming hearing stood down proceedings till 12pm on Monday to hear from the controller on the reason El-Zakzaky’s wife was reportedly not allowed from seeing her personal physician while being held at the correctional centre.
One of the counsels for El-Zakzaky who appeared in court, Abubakar Marshal, had earlier told the court, presided over by Justice Gideon Kurada, that Zeenat was refused access to her personal doctor contrary to the court’s order.
But the trial judge ordered that the Controller of the Correctional facility appeared before the court to give reasons the doctors were not allowed to attending to Zeenat while in their custody.
Justice Kurada subsequently stood down proceedings till 12pm even as the Shi’ites leader had yet to take his plea.
