Ondo state governor signs Amotekun bill into law
Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has signed the state security network and Amotekun corps bill into law.
Speaking at the government house in Akure on Wednesday, the governor said the outfit was established to complement the effort of the security agencies in keeping the peace of the nation.
Onyxnewsng reports that the state house of assembly, on Tuesday, passed the bill.
Akeredolu promised citizens that the security outfit would not be used for political purposes.
His word: “We wish to reiterate that the Amotekun corps is a child of necessity and was purely born out of the need to explore other means of securing our forests and protecting all those who do legitimate business within the South-west region,” he said.
“For the umpteenth time, the Amotekun Corps is not an independent regional outfit but a complementary efforts by the governors of the South-west to engender unity, peace and security.
“Most importantly, the corps shall not be allowed for political purposes; it has no business at political rallies just as the police must continue to discharge its obligations and responsibilities to the people.”
According to the bill, the chairman of the board of the security agency will be appointed by the governor, and there will be a commander that will lead operatives in the field.
