BREAKING: Coronavirus rises to 40 in Nigeria as Lagos, Abuja record fresh cases
Coronavirus has risen to 40 in Nigeria with 4 new cases confirmed by the NCDC.
Onyxnewsng reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed and announced four fresh cases of coronavirus (Covid-19), bringing the total number to 40 in Nigeria.
This online news platform understands that the three cases added are in Lagos State while one was discovered at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, the nation’s capital.
A statement by the NCDC reads; “Four new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria. 3 are in Lagos State and 1 in FCT
“Two of these cases are returning travellers
“As at 11:00 pm on the 23rd of March, there are 40 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged with 1 death recorded,” the statement added.

Onyxnewsng reports that as of 11:00 pm on the 23rd of March, there are 40 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria. Two out of the number confirmed have been discharged while one death has been recorded.
In a related report, 25 Nigerian lawmakers have contracted the deadly COVID-19. The lawmakers that have reportedly tested positive for the virus are members of the Nigerian Senate and members of the House of Representatives.
According to other reports, 10 senators and 15 members of the House of Representatives are reportedly hospitalised in private hospitals after testing positive for COVID -19.
Some of the Nigerian lawmakers had arrived from London, the United Kingdom over the past week.
Meanwhile, this is coming after Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari raised a hasten public health alarm to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, informing him of some Nigerian lawmakers arrogant attitudes towards health officials.
In a letter to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on March 21, the President’s Chief of Staff said Nigeria’s Minister of Health had drawn his attention to repeated violation of screening process at the country’s airports.
The Chief of Staff wrote the Speaker of House of Representatives, saying that: “As you are aware, these airport screenings are our primary line of defence and refusal by any citizen to subject to these tests is a threat to our nation.”
In the letter which was appeared on social media on Monday morning, Kyari admonished Gbajabiamila to rein in the excesses of federal lawmakers as soon as possible and ask all those who have refused to submit to a medical test for coronavirus (COVID-19) to report themselves at the screening centres across the country. The letter did not specifically name the lawmakers that declined screening upon returning from foreign trips.
