COVID-19: Lagos lockdown not lifted for Easter celebration
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is yet to lift COVID-19 Lagos lockdown order for Easter celebration, Onyxnews Nigeria can report.
A report monitored on many online news platforms had quoted the Lagos State Governor to have given a “directive that Lagosians should be allowed between the hours of 8 am-to-4 pm on Friday to enable residents of the state to shop for Easter celebration.”
The report said, “This was in response to the several calls put to him by both Christian and Muslim faithful to carry out their spiritual responsibilities to God from Friday through Sunday, this week, as God plans to cleanse the land of all forms of illnesses including the ravaging Coronavirus.”
However, reports stated that the information is a piece of “fake news” as the Governor did not give such order.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gboyega Akosile, through a phone conversation, told Newsone Nigeria that the report should be disregarded.
“Please, disregard, its fake news,” Mr Akosile said.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary stress that: “The Lockdown was declared by the President and not the governor. The report saying the lockdown has been lifted did not quote me or any government official so it’s fake.”
Meanwhile, on March 29, the Federal Government gave a directive to a total lockdown for residents of Lagos, Abuja and Ogun States to stop the spread of deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
