BREAKING: Bandits abduct Nigerian Navy officer, demand huge amount of money for his release

A Nigerian Navy officer, whose identity is yet to be revealed has said to be kidnapped by gunmen in the Oba Akoko area of the Owo-Ikare Expressway in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo State, Western part of Nigeria.
This is happening barely a week after a Nigerian Army officer, Captain D Gana, was kidnapped on the Auga Kabba Expressway while traveling from Abuja. However, he was rescued by a joint team of security personnel.
A source who is a policeman, told journalists that a naval officer was abducted on his way to Abuja, but it had not been ascertained the number of other people kidnapped with him.
Onyxnews Nigeria gathered that the kidnappers had contacted the members of the navy officer’s family and demanded the sum of N50m as ransom before he would be released.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Tee-Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the incident added that various tactical squads has been deployed in the environment for the search and rescue of the victim.
Ikoro said: “the command has sought the support of the communities around the area to join hands with the team in searching for the victim.”
The PRO also advised travellers to be security conscious while in transit, stressing that the job of effective crime prevention, detection and control was for everybody and not for the police alone.
