JUST IN: Access Bank set to refund stamp duty charges

Access Bank announced to return customers stamp duty charges from February 1 to April 30, 2020.
The bank made this known in a statement on Sunday that it’s taking the burden of the two months stamp duty charge off customers.
Access bank also said deductions made between Saturday and Sunday would be reversed to customers, claiming that an email has been sent to customers on June 23.
The bank added that it was clear that this period is a tough one for customers.
But the bank’s customers on social media on Saturday and Sunday over what some of them described as outrageous and unnecessary deductions of stamp duty charges tagged the bank; “#AccessBankScam,” online, replied they didn’t see any mail like that.
Then the bank replied: “We have have heard our customers’ feedback that this charge is unwelcome, especially at this time against a challenging economic drop,” the bank said in the statement.
“We have considered your feedback and have decided to pay the stamp duty on our customers’ behalf for the affected period only,” it added.
