Osun Security Agencies Apprehend Farmer Over Alleged Killing Of Herder
A farmer named Paul Amaechi has been arrested by a combined security team consisting of operatives from the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State.
The arrest was made in relation to the alleged killing of an unidentified herder who was grazing cattle on Amaechi’s farm in Talamu village.
The herder’s mutilated body was discovered on Amaechi’s farm, leading to suspicion of his involvement in the herder’s death.
The spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been removed from the crime scene.
According to Adeleke, a herder who witnessed the attack reported the case at a police station in Orile Owu.
The eyewitness stated that the heads of cattle had previously grazed on Amaechi’s farm, prompting him and other farmers in the area to set up an ambush.
She added, “Mr Paul Amaechi who is a Tiv farmer was arrested in respect of alleged murder of a herder by a joint operation of NSCDC and the police.
“The eyewitness, who is also a herder, said Amaechi was displeased after his farm was damaged by the herders that took their cattle there to feed about two weeks ago.”
The eyewitness also said he was lucky to have escaped the ambush.
