AFCON 2024: Nigeria Minister Of Sport, Enoh Charges NFF, Peseiro To Lead Super Eagles Win
Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, has instructed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, to ensure that the Super Eagles become champions in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The AFCON will take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
During a meeting in Abuja, the minister conveyed his concerns about the Super Eagles’ performances, particularly their sluggish start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The team had unimpressive draws against both Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.
Minister Enoh expressed the passion of Nigerians for football and their eagerness to win the AFCON, especially after more than a decade of waiting.
He said, “Our country is so passionate about football, such that amidst all other sports, football is about the only sport that has an entry in the nation’s national budget.
“That is how important football is because whatever happens to it happens to us as a country.”
The minister reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Federal Government toward Nigerian football.
He emphasized the necessity for thorough planning and unified strategies to propel the national team to victory.
This directive signifies the government’s commitment to the development and success of football in Nigeria.
