‘I Won’t Surrender Rivers to Blackmail, Intimidation’ – Gov Fubara
Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara has made a strong commitment to resist any attempts at blackmail and intimidation targeting the state.
In his address at the quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized that the state belongs to its people and he is determined to protect and defend it from any malicious acts.
This statement came in the context of a disagreement between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, regarding the political structure of the state.
Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused Fubara of neglecting the very structure that helped him ascend to power.
The confrontation between the two escalated to the point of an impeachment attempt against Governor Fubara, but it was thwarted by the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
Despite this political turmoil, Governor Fubara remains resolute in his dedication to the people of Rivers State and his determination to safeguard their interests.
However, speaking at the event, Fubara said: “Let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend and advance it as the governor.
“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility, nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail and deliberate sabotage.
“I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”
