Gov Obaseki Unveils Command Center, Emergency Hotline To Tackle Insecurity In Edo State
Governor Obaseki of Edo State has taken a significant step in enhancing security measures by launching the Command and Control Center and introducing an emergency contact number.
This move is a result of a comprehensive analysis of crime incidents from 2017 to 2020, which revealed a remarkable 47.7% reduction in crime rates.
The governor commended the efforts of the state’s security agencies for their commendable work.
In order to further improve security in the state, Governor Obaseki has entrusted a considerable part of the security framework to traditional rulers.
Recognizing their deep understanding of local environments, he urged them to promptly alert security agencies in case of any perceived threats or suspicious activities.
This recognizes the crucial role that traditional rulers can play in ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
The governor also shared encouraging progress in community security, revealing that 5,000 vigilantes have already undergone training, with an additional 1,000 individuals currently undergoing extensive security training.
These initiatives aim to empower community members with the necessary skills to protect the lives and properties of the people of Edo.
During the security summit, retired Major General Ohifeme Enemia commended Governor Obaseki for his efforts in establishing the Command and Control Center.
He emphasized the significance of such initiatives in ensuring the safety and security of the populace.
Major General Enemia highlighted that effective security goes beyond simply bearing arms; it also involves cultivating a secure state of mind among the people.
This indicates the importance of not only physical security measures but also the need to prioritize mental preparedness and awareness in order to create a safe environment for all.
