AFCON 2023: Morocco Become First Side To Arrive In Cote D’Ivoire
Morocco has made history by becoming the first team, other than the host nation, to arrive in Cote d’Ivoire for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
The Atlas Lions touched down in Abidjan on Sunday, receiving a warm welcome at Felix Houphouet Boigny Airport.
The team, led by coach Walid Regragui, arrived at 2:00 PM local time and were greeted with a vibrant cultural ceremony organized by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the AFCON, amid tight security in Terminal 2.
Members of the Moroccan community in Abidjan were also present at the airport to show their support for the team.
It is worth noting that Morocco, having reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, is considered as one of the top contenders to win the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Atlas Lions are placed in Group F alongside DR Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.
