2024 UTME: JAMB Declares Free Registration Fee For Disabled People
The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has declared that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024 will not incur any fees for individuals with disabilities who intend to enroll.
Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, conveyed this information during a media session aimed at introducing the registration process for the 2024 UTME.
As part of JAMB’s initiative to provide support, free application documents will be issued to all categories of persons with disabilities.
In addition, audio books will be made available to blind candidates to ensure equal opportunities for all participants.
This decision stemmed from a suggestion made at the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.
The audio books will be accessible in popular formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with various audio streaming devices.
Moreover, to further support blind candidates, diagrams will be omitted from their exam questions.
“This will help the blind candidates to easily understand the subject/text,” he added.
Additionally, an electronic copy of the reading text will be provided at no cost to all categories of candidates for the 2024 UTME, as highlighted by the registrar.
The registration for the 2024 UTME is scheduled to kick off on January 15th, with a fee of N6,200 for candidates not taking the mock examination, and N7,700 for those opting to participate in the mock exam.
