AFCON 2023: ‘How Super Eagles Trampled On Elephants’ – Osimhen On Nigeria’s Triumph Over Ivory Coast
Victor Osimhen has revealed the key factor behind the Super Eagles’ victory over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
The Nigerian team emerged triumphant with a 1-0 win in a closely contested match at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan on Thursday night.
The decisive goal was scored from a penalty kick in the 56th minute by William Troost-Ekong, the center-back from PAOK Salonica, after Osimhen was fouled inside the penalty box.
Osimhen, who was awarded the Man of the Match, shared that the team’s strategy was focused on dominating the midfield.
During a press in Abidjan, The Napoli forward noted that the clash was a tough one.
“It was a difficult game. Cote d’Ivoire is a difficult opponent but we got our tactics right today.
“The plan was to wait for them in midfield and capiltise on their mistakes. Obviously, it worked well for us.
“This is a big win for us and we have to build on this in our next game.”
The Super Eagles’ next game will be against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau, scheduled to take place at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan next Tuesday.
