Preliminary Round Draw Of AFCON 2025 Holds Today
The preliminary draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place today at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
This information was announced by CAF in a statement released on its official website through its Communication Department on Monday.
Following the successful conclusion of the 34th edition of the tournament, the draw for the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, Morocco 2025, will be held on Tuesday.
The draw is set to commence at 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
The statement read, “The preliminary round will include the eight lowest-ranked teams according to the FIFA ranking:
“Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia and Eswatini.
“The matches will be played on home and away basis during the FIFA Window of March 18 to March 26.
“The four preliminary round winners will join the 44 exempted teams for the group stage.”
The recently concluded 2023 AFCON was hosted in Côte d’Ivoire and was won by the host nation, the Elephants after defeating the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a score of 2-1 in the final match of the tournament.
