Russia has added the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to its wanted list, as reported by the state news agency TASS.

The Russian Interior Ministry’s database revealed Zelenskyy’s inclusion on the list, although specific details were not provided at that time.

Furthermore, Russia has initiated a criminal case against Zelenskyy, signaling a significant escalation in tensions between the two neighboring countries.

In response to these developments, Ukraine has promptly dismissed the report, characterizing it as a clear demonstration of Moscow’s desperation amidst the ongoing geopolitical conflict.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has gone a step further by drawing attention to the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin himself could potentially face arrest under an International Criminal Court warrant, highlighting the complex and volatile nature of the situation.

The statement said: “We would like to remind you that unlike the worthless Russian announcements, an International Criminal Court warrant for the arrest of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on suspicion of war crimes is quite real, and subject to implementation in 123 countries.”

According to the ministry, the Russian announcement was “evidence of the desperation of the Russian state machine and propaganda, which can think of no other way to attract attention”.

The issue extends beyond Ukraine alone, as Russia had previously issued arrest warrants for several Ukrainian and other European politicians in February 2022.

Notably, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Lithuania’s culture minister, and members of the previous Latvian parliament were placed on a wanted list by Russian authorities for their alleged involvement in the destruction of Soviet-era monuments—a move indicative of broader political and historical sensitivities in the region.
