BREAKING: Cross River State Assembly Members Impeach Speaker, Hon. Elvert Anyambem
Hon. Elvert Anyambem, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, faced impeachment in the early hours of Wednesday by his fellow assembly members due to allegations of gross misconduct and authoritarian leadership.
The decision to remove Speaker Anyambem had been brewing for several months, with members expressing concerns about his behavior and management style.
By Tuesday, more than 20 members had signaled their support for his impeachment, culminating in a motion presented on the House floor by Hon. Effiong Ekarika of Calabar South 1, seconded by Charles Omang.
Following the impeachment, the members seized the mace, a symbol of legislative authority.
