FG Commissions NDDC’s Power Sub-station In Ondo State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the multi-billion naira 132KV Transmission Line and I32KV/33KV electricity substation at Ode-Erinje in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
During the ceremony, the President emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the Niger Delta region, citing electricity as a crucial element for enhancing industrial growth in the country.
Acknowledging the completion of the project by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the President urged continued support from the people of the Niger Delta region.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commended the NDDC for the significant initiative and urged local residents to take ownership of the substation and protect it from vandalism, considering the prolonged period of electricity deprivation they had endured.
He declared: “I am deeply grateful to all individuals, organisations and stakeholders whose dedication and collaboration has brought this project to fruition. A special acknowledgment is owed to the current management of the NDDC under the Chairmanship of Mr. Chiedu Ebie and the Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for its invaluable partnership, unwavering support, and steadfast commitment to realising this high impact endeavour.”
“I appreciate our esteemed Royal fathers, in this district, the resilient residents of Ode-Erinje: our gracious host community, and the entire people of the Southern Senatorial District for their cooperation and steadfast support throughout the journey of this project.”
“This transformative project will bring significant benefits, including job opportunities, new investments, better healthcare and support socioeconomic development in the district. Moreover, the project will, no doubt, boost economic activities and improve the quality of life for our citizens by ensuring reliable and affordable electricity supply.”
The Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Chiedu Ebie, highlighted the project as a testament to President Tinubu’s vision for peace and development in the Niger Delta.
He reaffirmed the NDDC’s commitment to driving the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the board’s unwavering dedication to initiatives that positively impact residents’ lives, regardless of the project’s origin.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, underscored the electricity project’s role in complementing the Federal Government’s efforts in the power sector and emphasized its significant benefits for the region.
The project reflects a collective goal to enhance the socio-economic landscape and improve the quality of life for Niger Delta residents.
Additionally, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku expressed confidence that the new electricity substation would bring light to over 2,000 communities spanning five local government areas in the oil-rich region of Ondo State, offering substantial improvements in livelihoods and economic activities.
He also praised the local traditional leaders and community figures for safeguarding the project against vandalism attempts.
Providing an overview of the initiative, Sir Victor Antai, the Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, outlined the scope of work which included the installation of 45km double circuit 33KV feeder lines linking Omotosho Power Station to Okitipupa, along with two 30MVA, 132/33KV Injection Substations featuring critical infrastructure like breakers, gantries, and substation automations.
Additionally, provision was made for the construction of 3-bedroom semi-detached bungalows to serve as accommodation for staff.
He explained: “The project is aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s effort in the power sector by improving power supply to Okitipupa, Igbokoda and other neighbouring communities in Ondo South Senatorial District with direct value to chain in small and medium scale industries, job creation and consequently ,engender growth and development in Ondo State”.
Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, emphasized the symbolic importance of the project in our collective journey to uplift the quality of life and economic prospects within our region.
He observed: “This project is not just an infrastructure endeavor but also a beacon of hope for what can be achieved when we unite with purpose and determination. A closer look at this specific project reveals several positive milestones in bridging the infrastructure gaps in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole”.
