‘Nobody Is Singing’– Reactions Flood Moment Nigerian Players Struggled With New National Anthem [Video]

Nigerians have expressed their thoughts on social media regarding the Super Eagles players’ subdued reaction during the national anthem recitation.

The players were seen having difficulty singing the new Nigerian national anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee,’ before their World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

This occurred during the match held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where the three-time African champions faced South Africa and ended with a 1-1 draw.

It is customary for teams to sing their national anthems before international football matches.

However, in the case of the recent game against South Africa, the Nigerian players remained silent, showing respect and seriousness while the new national anthem played.

On various social media platforms, including X, some Nigerians shared their lack of surprise at the players’ challenge in reciting the national anthem, attributing it to the limited time they had to familiarize themselves with it.

Previously, weeks ago, the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved the reinstatement of the former national anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee,’ replacing ‘Arise O compatriots,’ which is more recognizable to many Nigerians in the current generation.

This decision sparked debates since the newly readopted anthem had been abandoned over four decades ago.

In their upcoming match, Nigeria will face Benin Republic at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Monday, June 10th.
