No Evidence Bobrisky Slept Outside Prison During Jail Term – FG Panel Declared
An investigation panel declared on Monday that there is no proof to support the claim that the well-known crossdresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky, spent his six-month jail term outside the prison premises.
The Phase One report of the panel, presented by Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, was released at the Ministry of Interior.
Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5th, having been sentenced to six months on April 12th for an offense involving naira mutilation.
There were allegations from a prominent activist, VeryDarkMan, suggesting that Bobrisky did not serve his term in Kirikiri prison as stated but instead stayed in a lodge, purportedly due to the intervention of a godfather.
VeryDarkMan further made claims, supported by an audio recording, of Bobrisky confessing to offering a bribe of N15 million to EFCC officials in exchange for dropping his money laundering charges.
In response to these allegations, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, took action by initiating an investigation.
On September 30, a panel was set up under the leadership of Magdalena Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, specifically tasked with probing ‘Alleged Corruption & Other Violations Against the Nigerian Correctional Service.’
However, Agomoh said the panel “did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment, which was from 12th April 2024 to the 5th August 2024, which is a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable”.
