BREAKING: Speed Darlington Granted Bail –Lawyer
Stanley Alieke, the attorney representing the well-known and often controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, widely recognized as Speed Darlington, has announced that the artist has secured bail after spending almost a month in police detention.
Alieke made this announcement via his Instagram account on Monday.
“Apki has been granted bail by the court,” he wrote without including much information.
Speed Darlington was taken into custody on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.
His arrest was linked to alleged abuses directed towards Afrofusion artist Damini Ogulu, who is famously known as Burna Boy.
In a confirmation from Darlington’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, it was stated that Burna Boy played a role in Speed Darlington’s arrest.
The situation escalated after Darlington ridiculed Burna Boy for his connection to the troubled U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing serious charges related to sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
This mocking led to Darlington’s initial detention, and upon his arrival at the police station, he vowed to continue criticizing the Grammy-winning artist due to Burna Boy’s ties with the embroiled Diddy.
Earlier, Darlington’s lawyer, Adeyanju, indicated that the rapper would be formally charged within 48 hours or would be released on bail.
“Our FREP application for Speed Darlington a.k.a has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time but justice will always prevail,” he wrote.
