AFCON 2025: Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal Discover Group Stage Opponents
The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to occur on Monday, January 27, in Rabat, Morocco.
Twenty-four teams will establish their group-stage opponents for Africa’s premier football tournament.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is anticipated to be present at the event, along with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
The participating countries have been placed into four pots, with the six highest-ranked teams according to the December FIFA World Rankings positioned in Pot One.
One team from each of the four pots will be selected to form six groups, each consisting of four teams.
This arrangement ensures that the top six ranked teams will not compete against each other in the initial round.
The leading two teams from each group, in addition to the four highest-ranked third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16.
AFCON draw: Group stage seeding
Pot 1: Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Ivory Coast
Pot 2: Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, Burkina Faso
Pot 3: Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Benin Republic
Pot 4: Mozambique, Comoros, Tanzania, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Botswana
