VP Shettima Hosts Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria at Aso Rock

Vice President Kashim Shettima received Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, marking a key moment in efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Sweden.
The Swedish royal, who arrived at 2:13 p.m., was welcomed by Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, before proceeding to a closed-door meeting with Shettima.
Princess Victoria is on a three day official visit (April 7–9), aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation. Her itinerary includes talks with Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and a visit to Lagos to inaugurate the new Swedish Trade Office—expected to enhance commercial relations between both countries.
The visit follows Shettima’s October 2024 trip to Stockholm, where the Crown Princess hosted him at the Royal Palace.
Sweden joins a growing list of European nations engaging with Nigeria through royal diplomacy. In 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, while King Charles III and Queen Camilla previously visited in 2018 during a West African tour.
