Nigerian Afrobeats Stars Nominated for 2025 AMAs as Jennifer Lopez Returns as Host

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Wizkid, alongside Rema, Tems, and Asake, has been nominated for the Favourite Afrobeats Artist award at the 2025 American Music Awards. South African Grammy winner Tyla also joins the category, highlighting Africa’s growing influence on the global music scene.
The category was first introduced in 2022, with Wizkid making history as the inaugural winner. The 2025 ceremony will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 26 and will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez, who returns to the AMA stage after a decade. Lopez will also perform live during the event.
Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations with 10, including top honors like Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for GNX. His song “Not Like Us,” central to his feud with Drake, is nominated for Song of the Year. Fans worldwide will be able to watch and vote live during the broadcast.
