Speed Darlington Faces Investigation by NAPTIP for Alleged Sexual Misconduct with Minor

Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, has been summoned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following allegations that he sexually abused a minor. The summons, dated May 28, 2025, was issued after a video went viral showing the artist admitting to having sex with a 15-year-old girl. NAPTIP’s official letter stated that the artist must appear for questioning on May 30, 2025, at their Abuja office, warning that non-compliance could result in legal consequences.
The agency cited the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2015 and the Cybercrime Act 2015 as the legal framework under which the allegations are being investigated. The summons referenced multiple videos, including archived footage, containing incriminating statements about minors.
Following public outrage, Speed Darlington released a video retracting his earlier statements, claiming they were fabricated to generate controversy and promote a new song. He said, “I need controversy to eat. If you are not trending, you are not getting booked… When I dropped my song, I needed f#ck contents to push it.” He apologized to anyone offended by the stunt.
This incident adds to a history of controversies involving Speed Darlington, including a 2022 Instagram live altercation involving accusations about a 16-year-old girl and his 2023 public search for a girlfriend aged 16 to 20 years.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) condemned the video and referred the case to NAPTIP, citing jurisdictional limits and urging the public to report information to their hotlines. The Lagos government reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence.
