NSCDC Deploys 28,000 Operatives Nationwide to Secure Eid-El-Kabir Celebrations

In preparation for the Eid-El-Kabir festivities, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 28,000 personnel across Nigeria to ensure a peaceful and secure holiday period.
Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi issued the directive, mobilizing operatives from specialized units such as the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and Special Weapon and Tactics team.
According to a statement signed by NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale on Wednesday, this large-scale deployment is part of the corps’ ongoing efforts to protect vital national assets and infrastructure, as well as to secure lives and property throughout the nation.
Dr. Audi warned of the heightened risk of criminal activities during festive seasons and stressed the importance of preemptive measures to forestall such threats. “We are aware that the festive period often presents opportunities for criminal activities,” he said.
At a strategic security meeting with senior officials, including state commandants and formation heads, the Commandant General emphasized the need for enhanced intelligence gathering through community engagement. He noted that “credible tip-offs” are essential to successful security operations and reminded that “no single agency has a monopoly on tackling insecurity.”
He further directed the 36 state commandants and the Federal Capital Territory Command to foster effective collaboration with other security agencies and local communities. This coordinated effort is vital in addressing security challenges such as insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, vandalism, illegal bunkering, and farmers/herders conflicts.
“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board,” Audi appealed.
The Commandant General also urged private security operators to assist by promptly sharing intelligence and strengthening information networks, especially during emergencies, to bolster overall security.
