Ex-Super Eagles Midfielder Christian Obodo Urges Victor Osimhen to Compromise
Victor Osimhen has been advised by former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo to find a middle ground in his next career step amid persistent transfer speculation. Obodo, speaking to Brila.net, noted that Osimhen’s high release clause and salary demands have made European clubs hesitant.
Obodo said, “I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages is scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will bounce back and make them regret.”
He also expressed concern over the negative perception of Nigerian players compared to South American talents, stating, “Nigeria does not package their players well. If Osimhen was Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed since. The way some Nigerians talk about their countrymen is not fair.”
Obodo advised the striker to carefully evaluate his options, whether to stay in Europe or accept a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al Hilal. “For me, it is left for Osimhen to compromise if he wants to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the wages. Whatever decision he makes, we should just pray he does not make the wrong decision.”
Osimhen, 26, recently completed a loan at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances. Galatasaray is reportedly interested in a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have shown interest. Osimhen rejected a move to Al Hilal after wage talks stalled.
