JUST IN: Liverpool Finalizes Record-Setting £116 Million Transfer for Florian Wirtz

Liverpool has completed a groundbreaking transfer deal for Florian Wirtz, the German attacking midfielder, with a total package worth up to £116 million. The base fee is £100 million, with an additional £16 million tied to performance incentives, making it a potential new British transfer record.
Friday report notes that the add-ons depend on Liverpool’s sustained success at the highest level, potentially surpassing Chelsea’s £107 million record for Enzo Fernandez in 2023. This surpasses previous high-profile deals, including Chelsea’s acquisition of Moises Caicedo.
Wirtz’s journey began at Leverkusen when he debuted at 17. Over 197 games, he scored 57 goals and was pivotal in securing the Bundesliga title in 2024. For Germany, he has scored seven goals in 31 appearances since 2021.
Liverpool’s management praises Wirtz’s versatility, able to play from the left inside or central midfield positions. His skill in breaking defensive lines and delivering incisive passes is exceptional. His strong work ethic is noted, though the Premier League’s faster, more physical style will test him.
Before Liverpool’s successful bid, Manchester City’s interest cooled due to the cost, and Bayern Munich was also reportedly interested.
