Abuja High Court Sets Bail for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Defamation Suit

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Thursday granted bail to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the elected representative for Kogi Central Senatorial District. The court ordered a bail amount of N50 million and required one surety who must be a person of “reasonable integrity” residing in the Federal Capital Territory. Additionally, the surety must own a landed property within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
This bail decision is part of ongoing legal proceedings stemming from defamation allegations leveled against the senator. The court’s stringent surety requirements reflect a careful approach to safeguarding the judicial process and ensuring the senator’s compliance with court directives.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal challenges have attracted widespread attention, given her influential position in Nigerian politics. The outcome of this case may set important precedents regarding political defamation and legal accountability.
Further updates on the trial and related political ramifications are anticipated.
