UPDATED: Security Showdown Looms As Sen. Natasha Heads To NASS
There is a heightened security presence at the main gate of the National Assembly complex following reports that suspended lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, intends to resume during plenary on Tuesday (today).
It was earlier reported that the senator, on Saturday, vowed to return to her seat on July 22.
She referenced a recent ruling by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to back her decision.
However, in a statement released on Sunday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, refuted her claim, stating that the court only issued an “advisory opinion,” not a binding directive on the Senate.
Despite this clarification, the senator representing Kogi Central remains resolute in her decision to resume legislative duties.
A circulating video on social media shows a significant deployment of security personnel, including armed operatives, stationed at the complex’s entrance—apparently as a precaution to maintain order.
