EPL: Liverpool Defeat Bournemouth To Begin Title Defence Campaign— Details
Liverpool overcame a spirited Bournemouth comeback to claim a 4-2 win in the curtain-raiser of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The reigning champions, looking to defend the title won in Arne Slot’s debut campaign, got off to a flying start as new signing Hugo Ekitike marked his first appearance with a composed finish past Petrovic. Ekitike then turned provider early in the second half, setting up Cody Gakpo to double the advantage.
Bournemouth hit back through Antoine Semenyo, who, after suffering racial abuse in the first half, netted twice — including a brilliant solo goal — to level the contest.
Liverpool regained control when substitute Federico Chiesa forced in their third, and Mohamed Salah maintained his tradition of scoring on the opening day with a late strike, sealing a memorable and emotional victory at Anfield.
