INEC Declares PDP’s Adeleke Winner Of Osun Governorship Election
Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who narrowly lost his quest to lead Osun State nearly four years ago, finally overcame the largest challenge remaining in the way of his ambition. In the state’s governorship election on Saturday, he narrowly defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC). On the strength of a campaign to improve the state and reclaim what he claims is his mandate that was stolen, Senator Adeleke, 62, won 403,371 votes, 28,344 more than his nearest challenger, the incumbent governor. Oyetola received 375,027 votes in the election.
It was sufficient for Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the election’s returning officer, to pronounce him the winner and governor-elect.

Professor Ogundipe proclaimed Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen of the PDP to be the winner and re-elected after he had complied with all legal conditions. There were 15 candidates in the election on Saturday, but Oyetola and Adeleke’s rematch garnered the most media interest. It became evident that the election, which was generally seen as calm, was a two-horse race between the two men as the results from the local governments poured in.
