Nigeria Govt, UK Partner on Minerals Development
The Nigerian Government and the United Kingdom have agreed to form a joint technical working group aimed at developing critical mineral deposits within Nigeria.
This collaboration was announced by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, in Abuja.
The partnership stemmed from a meeting between Alake and the UK Deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, during the Mines and Money conference in London in December, 2023.
Following this announcement, a delegation from the British High Commission, led by Deputy High Commissioner Johnny Baxter, visited the Minister of Solid Minerals Development to further refine the details of the collaboration.
According to Alake, this partnership will result in significant investments in the mining sector’s value chain.
The administration, under President Bola Tinubu, is committed to enhancing the ease of doing business in the mining sector.
This will involve the establishment of a new security architecture for natural resources and the creation of a Nigerian Mining Corporation led by the private sector to ensure efficient governance.
The minister emphasized the government’s dedication to revamping and repositioning the mining sector to significantly contribute to the nation’s revenue.
