UPDATED: WAEC Announces Results For First CB-WASSCE Exam
In the recently conducted Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024-First Series, it was reported that thirty percent of the candidates achieved credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English.
This announcement was made in a statement released on March 22 by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of Dr. Josiah Dangut, the Head of National Office.
Comparing the statistics to previous years, it was noted that the percentage of candidates meeting this criterion in the 2022 and 2023 exams was 26.32 percent and 23.99 percent, respectively. This reflects a positive trend with a 6.96 percent increase in performance.
A total of 8,139 candidates participated in the examination which took place between January 31 and February 17, 2024, across 140 CBT centers nationwide.
Out of these candidates, 42.07 percent obtained credits in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
It is worth mentioning that the results of sixty-five candidates, constituting 0.80 percent of the total candidates, are currently withheld due to examination malpractice.
Despite this, the number of reported cases of malpractice in the 2023-First Series exam significantly decreased, indicating that the examination administration methods adopted have been effective in curbing such incidents.
WAEC said: “Candidates may check their results by visiting www.waecdirect.org to ascertain their status before visiting the Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access the digital copies of their certificates, which have been released along with their results. Candidates will be required to apply for the printing of the hard copies of their certificates online, through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman). The portal address is https://certrequest.waec.ng/.”
