BREAKING: Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Finally Surrenders To EFCC
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who had been evading the authorities for several months following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s declaration of him as a wanted individual, has eventually presented himself at the agency’s headquarters.
The ex-governor was called in to address accusations of money laundering and corrupt practices, specifically linked to an alleged sum of N80.2 billion.
In an announcement made on Wednesday by Ohiare Michael, the Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, it was stated that Bello’s decision to appear was the outcome of extensive discussions with his family, legal counsel, and political associates.
The released statement highlighted Bello’s previous efforts to assert his fundamental rights, underlining his consistent adherence to the principles of the law and due process in all matters.
“The case has been before a competent court of jurisdiction, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello had been duly represented by his legal team at every hearing,” the statement read.
“The former governor’s decision to honor the EFCC invitation was to clear his name, asserting that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear,” it added.
Throughout this period, Bello’s legal team has continuously asserted his stance as a proponent of the ongoing anti-corruption campaign championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
They have portrayed him as the inaugural Kogi State governor to institute frameworks aimed at combating corruption and ensuring that state resources are utilized for the welfare of the populace.
During his visit to the EFCC premises, Bello was joined by a contingent of well-known personalities.
His representatives expressed optimism that the EFCC would carry out their inquiries with professionalism while upholding his inherent rights as a Nigerian citizen.
