BREAKING: Senate Suspends Natasha For Six Months
The Senate, on Thursday, suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over alleged misconduct in the chamber.
The decision was reached following the Senate’s consideration and adoption of a report presented by the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions during plenary. The report was submitted by the committee’s chairman, Senator Neda Imasuen.
Additionally, the Senate issued a warning to the Kogi Central lawmaker, cautioning her against violating the chamber’s standing rules. The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, highlighted that Akpoti-Uduaghan had repeatedly refused to stand when the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, led the procession to commence plenary, thereby breaching Senate Standing Orders 55(1).
Monguno further stated that while Akpoti-Uduaghan has the right to express her opinions under Senate rules, she cannot selectively adhere to certain provisions while disregarding others.
“Senator Natasha has been consistently and persistently in breach of this rule.
“He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
“If you are seeking refuge always under Order 10, you cannot approbate and reprobate.
“We urge to urge her to study the rules and comply in observance and not in breach,” Monguno said.
Earlier on Thursday, March 6, 2025, during the Senate’s plenary session, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan resubmitted a harassment petition after her initial submission was rejected due to procedural errors.
Meanwhile, Senate President Akpabio has denied the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him, stating that he has never harassed any woman.
