No One Is Starving — NCoS Says Inmates Eat Three Times Daily, Thanks to Tinubu’s Support

In the face of rising inflation, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has reassured the public that inmates across its custodial centres are not being neglected. Spokesman Abubakar Umar, in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday, insisted that every inmate is provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily — a system made possible by increased government funding.
Umar credited the Bola Tinubu administration for stepping up inmate care, noting that the feeding budget was increased by 50% shortly after the president took office. “We prioritize inmate welfare. Hunger is not a reality in our facilities, despite economic challenges,” he stated.
The spokesman also dismissed sensational reports that suggested prisoners were dying from starvation. He clarified that all access to correctional centres is regulated and that the reports of media interviews with inmates were likely fabricated. “These are restricted areas. You don’t just walk in and start recording. The public should not be misled.”
Umar emphasized that inmates are human beings with rights and dignity, and the government is committed to protecting those rights — especially through adequate nutrition and care.
