JAMB Set to Release Results of 379,000 Candidates Who Resat UTME Following Exam Glitches

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of 379,000 candidates who took the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
The resit was necessitated by technical and human errors during the initial exam, which led to a mass failure, especially in Lagos and South-East states.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, admitted last week that the errors were significant, describing the situation as “sabotage.” He revealed that 206,610 candidates in Lagos and 173,387 in the South-East were affected by the glitches.
Speaking to Press Men, JAMB’s spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed, “The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday.”
The original UTME results showed that only 0.63% of candidates scored 300 and above, while over 75% scored below 200 marks out of 400, sparking national concern about the exam’s fairness.
The South-East Caucus in the House of Representatives has called for the immediate resignation of Prof. Oloyede, describing the UTME conduct as a “catastrophic institutional failure.” They criticized the short notice for the rescheduled exam and its clash with ongoing WAEC exams, which caused distress for students and families.
The caucus demanded cancellation of the 2025 UTME, a fresh exam after WAEC and NECO, and suspension of officials responsible for the failures, insisting that public apologies are insufficient.
