Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Ban on Harvard’s International Students; Trump Responds

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s effort to prevent Harvard University from enrolling foreign students, a move the White House defends as necessary for national security.
President Trump, via Truth Social, criticised Harvard for hosting nearly a third of its student body from abroad without adequate transparency. “We want to know who those foreign students are… but Harvard isn’t exactly forthcoming,” he stated.
The controversy erupted after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem revoked Harvard’s certification to admit international students, demanding information on visa holders allegedly involved in violent acts. Harvard promptly sued, calling the government’s action unconstitutional retaliation.
U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs granted the temporary restraining order, citing the severe impact on Harvard’s international student population, which constitutes about 27 to 31 percent of its enrollment.
The Trump administration’s crackdown is part of a broader campaign against universities, including visa revocations for students involved in pro-Palestinian protests and allegations of anti-Semitism on campuses. Funding freezes and threats to research grants have further strained relations with Harvard.
