BALLON D’Or 2025: PSG Players Set To Miss Ceremony, See Why

The Ballon d’Or gala may go ahead without some of Paris Saint-Germain’s biggest stars after organisers confirmed that the much-anticipated Le Classique against Marseille has been pushed to Monday night due to severe weather warnings in southern France.

The rescheduling poses a major dilemma for PSG, as the derby now coincides with the Ballon d’Or ceremony at Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet, where several of the club’s players are expected to be celebrated.

Among them is Ousmane Dembélé, regarded as a frontrunner for the men’s award after inspiring PSG to Champions League glory in May and a European Super Cup triumph in August.

The club has nine other nominees across different categories, the highest representation of any side.

However, with kick-off in Marseille clashing directly with the ceremony, players may have to sacrifice football’s most prestigious individual honours for the derby.

PSG manager Luis Enrique will already be without Dembélé and young talent Désiré Doué, who are sidelined through injury — a situation that could still allow them to attend the awards night if they wish.

Officials postponed the original Sunday fixture after the Bouches-du-Rhône region was placed on orange alert for heavy rain, flooding, and thunderstorms, citing safety concerns at the Vélodrome.

This scheduling conflict comes just a year after Real Madrid boycotted the 2024 awards in protest over Vinícius Júnior losing out to Manchester City’s Rodri.

Unlike that standoff, PSG’s absence this time would be down to circumstances beyond their control — a weather-induced fixture reshuffle.
