Kogi Election: INEC Ruled Out Elections In Nine Wards
The suspension of the election in certain areas of Kogi State has been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The decision was made in response to reports received from its officials in the state regarding instances of electoral malpractices.
One of the major concerns highlighted by the INEC was the completion of result sheets before the actual voting took place.
The affected areas, as stated by the Commission, are Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ogori/Magongo, Okehi, and Okene Local Government Areas.
Among these, Ogori/Magongo witnessed the most serious incidents, impacting nine out of ten Registration Areas.
According to the statement said by the commission which was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner & Member Information and Voter Education Committee, “This is entirely unacceptable. Any result not emanating from the Commission’s process in the Polling Units will not be accepted.”
Temporarily, the election in the nine wards of Ogori/Magongo LGA, namely Eni, Okibo, Okesi, Ileteju, Aiyeromi, Ugugu, Obinoyin, Obatgben, and Oturu, has been suspended.
“The incidences in the other Local Government Areas are being thoroughly investigated, and the outcome, including the way forward, will be announced in the next 24 hours,” it added.
