13 Die As Club Roof Collapses
Over 13 people have died after a major storm caused the roof of a sports club in the Argentine port city of Bahia Blanca to collapse.
The storm brought heavy rain and strong winds, and the roof of the building, which was hosting a skating competition, gave way, according to the local mayor’s office.
“Unfortunately, the emergency service confirms the death of 13 people in the Bahiense del Norte club,” the municipality said in a statement, adding that firefighters were working at the site where people remained trapped under rubble.
Winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour were recorded in Bahia Blanca, and some areas of the city lost power as a result of the storm.
The intense weather caused significant damage to property, including the roof of the sports club.
