INEC Issues Certificates Of Return To 16 Plateau Assembly Members-elect
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently awarded certificates of return to 16 members-elect of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
These members-elect were declared winners of the March 18 elections after the Court of Appeal invalidated the election of those previously declared winners by INEC.
Out of the 16 members-elect, 15 belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while one is a member of the Labour Party.
Dr. Oliver Agundu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Plateau INEC, stated that this exercise fulfilled the directives of the Appeal Court, which required the commission to issue certificates of return to the lawmakers who were rightfully declared winners.
Dr. Agundu congratulated the lawmakers-elect on their victory and wished them success as they commence their service to the state.
Chief Rufus Bature, the APC State Chairman, emphasized that the Appeal Court’s decision not only bolstered the electoral process but also further deepened Nigeria’s democracy.
He cautioned the lawmakers against belittling other political parties in the state and urged them to display magnanimity in their victory.
“The interests of Plateau will always remain the top priority. We are looking at democracy as being about ourselves and not about ourselves.
“My charge to the members is that we should look at Plateau as our starting point in whatever we are going to do,” he said.
Mr. Sunday Naah, the member-elect for Jos North West, acknowledged the high expectations of the citizens and pledged to dedicate himself fully to the growth of his constituency and the state as a whole.
He assured his constituents that he would legislate effective and impactful laws to alleviate the difficulties faced by the people of Jos North West Constituency.
