North Korea’s Kim Orders Military To Prepare For Possible ‘War’
Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, concluded the year with renewed threats of a possible nuclear attack on Seoul, South Korea.
According to state media reports, he also ordered the military to increase its arsenal in preparation for a potential war on the Korean peninsula.
In a lengthy speech during the year-end party meetings, Kim criticized the United States and outlined his country’s military, political, and economic agenda for 2024.
The meeting announced plans for further military development, which include the launch of three additional spy satellites, the construction of unmanned drones, the enhancement of electronic warfare capabilities, and the strengthening of nuclear and missile forces.
These plans were reported by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Throughout this year, North Korea achieved certain milestones such as launching a reconnaissance satellite, officially declaring its status as a nuclear power in its constitution, and successfully test-firing an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from its arsenal.
Kim lambasted the United States, accusing them of posing “various forms of military threat.”
He also instructed his armed forces to maintain an “overwhelming war response capability,” as reported by KCNA.
In response to North Korea’s actions, the United States deployed a nuclear-powered submarine in the South Korean port city of Busan and conducted joint military exercises involving long-range bombers with Seoul and Tokyo.
However, North Korea considers these deployments of strategic weapons as “intentional nuclear war provocative moves” on the Korean peninsula.
The military “should rapidly respond to any possible nuclear crisis and put continuous spurs to the preparations for a great event to suppress the whole territory of south Korea by mobilizing all physical means and forces including nuclear forces in contingency”, Kim said.
